About this postcard
Goethe's small two-story garden house stands among tall bare trees in Weimar's Park an der Ilm. A shingled hipped roof and dormer top the house, and a low fence and gate enclose the grounds, with a bench at the right. Duke Carl August gave Goethe the house in 1776; he lived there in his early Weimar years and later used it as a retreat. Goethe's verse praises the quiet house as a place that gave good courage to its visitors. By the 1920s the house and park drew travelers tracing Goethe's life, and the sender of this card calls the park wonderful.
