About this postcard
Jockeys and their mounts parade toward the starting post on the dirt track at Hialeah Park, with the grandstand and clubhouse packed with spectators behind a flower-lined infield wall and a row of American flags flying from the roof. Hialeah Park opened in 1925 and became one of America's most fashionable winter racing venues, famed for its Mediterranean-style architecture and the flamingos introduced to its infield in the 1930s. The printed caption gives the card its own title for the scene, "Going to the Post."
