Golden Gate Bridge and Presidio from the air, San Francisco, California, circa 1940
- Card type
- Linen
About this postcard
An aerial view looks across the Golden Gate entrance to San Francisco Bay, with the Golden Gate Bridge spanning the strait between the Presidio's bluffs and the Marin headlands, whose shoreline lies in the distance. The dense grid of city blocks fills the foreground below the Presidio's wooded hills. The bridge, completed in 1937, was still a young landmark when this sky-photograph was issued, and the card celebrates the dramatic meeting of city, bay and headlands that the span crosses.
