About this postcard

A black-and-white view of the Golden Gate Bridge from the San Francisco shore. The south tower and the steel arch of the approach rise in the foreground, with Fort Point and waterfront buildings below the span and the Marin headlands across the strait. The bridge opened in 1937 with the longest suspension span in the world and quickly became a landmark at the mouth of San Francisco Bay.
