About this postcard
Golden Gate Cañon in Yellowstone National Park, where a paved road curves along the base of a steep, banded rock wall and passes through a short concrete gallery. Conifers cover the slopes on both sides of the canyon, and distant blue ridges close the horizon. The caption places the scene on the road from Mammoth Hot Springs to Norris Geyser Basin and calls it an example of the engineering needed to make a good road over Kingman Pass. By the 1930s, Yellowstone's Grand Loop Road was a well-established auto touring route, and galleries like this shielded the roadway from rockfall.
