Goldner Brothers Motor Co. sales call card, Germantown, PA, circa 1900

About this postcard

An unused printed business form on a government postal card, addressed to Goldner Brothers Motor Co. at Greene and Chelten Avenues in Germantown. The blanks for the date, hour, and signature were left empty, so the card preserves a request that was never made. Businesses supplied cards of this kind so customers could ask for a representative to call, a routine convenience in an era when a salesman's visit was how orders were taken. Germantown had been its own town before joining Philadelphia in 1854, and by the early 1900s Chelten Avenue was one of its main commercial streets. Motor companies of the period were typically small dealerships and garages serving a local trade.
