About this postcard

The entrance hall at Gore Place in Waltham, Massachusetts, with a curved staircase rising on the left, a glass and metal chandelier hanging above, and a large arched doorway with fanlight on the right. An open paneled door leads into an adjoining room; the floor is tiled and the walls plain. Gore Place was built around 1806 for Christopher Gore, a Massachusetts governor and U.S. senator, and the house's sweeping freestanding staircase is one of its best-known features. Views of the mansion's interiors were sold to visitors touring the estate, which by the twentieth century was maintained as a historic house.
