Governor's Palace Garden, Williamsburg, VA, circa 1942

Card type
Linen

About this postcard

The view looks across the formal ballroom garden toward the ballroom wing of the Governor's Palace, a brick addition made in 1751. Clipped hedges and urns line a path through the garden. The palace was the residence of Virginia's royal governors and, after the Revolution, of governors Patrick Henry and Thomas Jefferson. The original building burned in 1781, and the structure shown here was reconstructed in the 1930s as part of Colonial Williamsburg.
