About this postcard
The card shows the walled patio of the Governor's Palace in San Antonio, with a circular stone-bordered lily pond and fountain in the foreground, palms and dense greenery behind, and the pale stucco walls and arched gateway of the Spanish colonial building beyond. The Governor's Palace, begun in the 1740s, served as the residence of the Spanish royal governors of the province of Texas and later of Mexican officials; it now operates as a historic house museum. Its shaded courtyard, tiled paving and fountain are characteristic of the Spanish colonial architecture preserved in San Antonio.
