About this postcard

The Governor's Reception Room in the Utah State Capitol, Salt Lake City, is a formal interior with a coffered ceiling, heavy draperies, patterned carpet, and seating around a large table. Its furnishings mix imported and local materials: a 22-by-48-foot Scottish rug, curtains from Florence, Belgian draperies, a French wall hanging, and chandeliers made of Utah gold and silver. Furniture is inlaid with Utah gold, and a mural painting is by Paul Chettle. The furnishings cost $65,000, against $2,739,528.54 for the capitol itself. The capitol was completed in 1916, and the room displays imported craftsmanship alongside Utah materials.
