About this postcard
A view into the Grand Canyon from the rim, framed by a gnarled tree trunk and green foliage in the foreground, with the canyon's red and purple layered walls receding into the distance. The card labels the scene "Grand Canyon of Arizona — In the Ole Southwest." The Grand Canyon, carved by the Colorado River in northern Arizona, was proclaimed a national monument in 1908 and became a national park in 1919; by the linen-postcard era it was one of the most photographed scenic wonders in the United States.
