Grand Isle Bridge between North Hero and Grand Isle, Vermont, Lake Champlain, circa 1940

Card type

About this postcard

View along the roadway of the Grand Isle Bridge, a steel truss span with a gabled portal and a small white operator's/bridge house at its entrance, crossing the water of Lake Champlain toward the wooded shoreline of Grand Isle. The bridge linked North Hero with Grand Isle in Vermont's Lake Champlain islands; the structure shown is the 1930s-era span that carried traffic across the channel before later replacement. The card's sunset sky and linen-textured coloring are typical of mid-century scenic issues.
