View along the roadway of the Grand Isle Bridge, a steel truss span with a gabled portal and a small white bridge house at its entrance, crossing Lake Champlain toward the wooded shoreline of Grand Isle. The bridge linked North Hero with Grand Isle in Vermont's Lake Champlain islands, a rural chain of farms and summer communities. Its steel truss and portal frame are typical of early 20th-century highway bridges in the region. A warm sunset sky colors the water and shoreline.
