Teams of oxen and horse-drawn wagons and carriages crowd the grounds in front of a large wooden grandstand at the Agricultural Fair Grounds in Amesbury, Massachusetts. A banner across the grandstand reads "...FAIR." The scene shows a county or town fair of the period, when livestock judging, harness racing, and exhibition halls drew farm families and spectators from the surrounding area. The sender's note asks whether the recipient recognizes the place, a common use of local view cards sent to friends and family away from home.
