About this postcard

The photograph shows the pagoda-style facade of Grauman's Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, with its green tiled roof, spire-topped towers, red-canopied forecourt, and visitors gathered at the entrance. The theatre opened in 1927 as a project of showman Sid Grauman, and its Chinese Revival design made it one of Hollywood's best-known buildings. Its forecourt is famous for the concrete slabs where film stars left handprints and footprints. By the mid-1940s the theatre was a regular site for Hollywood gala premieres and a landmark for visitors on the boulevard.
