A tall obelisk stands behind an iron fence and clipped hedges, with bare winter trees and a lawn in the foreground. The card identifies the site as the grave of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Mary Ball Washington, George Washington's mother, died in Fredericksburg in 1789. A marble monument partially erected in 1833 by the Women of America was badly scarred during the 1862 bombardment of Fredericksburg, and President Grover Cleveland laid the cornerstone for the present granite monument in 1894.
Chrome-era color photo postcard with caption printed in yellow across the lower edge; no white border, minor corner wear.
No postmark, stamp, address or message — unused card. Divided-back chrome-era view card with printed description and publisher imprint; light toning/soiling on cream stock.
