About this postcard
The card looks up the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone at the Great Falls, a 308-foot plunge of the Yellowstone River framed by steep, ochre-and-pink rhyolite walls; a road and an automobile are visible on the rim at upper right. The falls are the lower of the two great cataracts in the canyon, a landmark of Yellowstone National Park that has drawn sightseers since the park's establishment in 1872. The printed caption gives the height as 308 feet, the figure commonly cited for the lower fall.
