About this postcard
A view across a lawn and flower beds toward the long, low oval Mormon Tabernacle, its rows of arched openings and shallow domed roof partly screened by shade trees, with a flagpole and American flag in front. Built 1864–1867 on Temple Square, the Tabernacle seated several thousand people under a self-supporting wooden lattice dome and housed the famous pipe organ; it served as the principal meeting hall of the Latter-day Saints until the Conference Center opened in 2000. The linen-textured, color-tinted view is typical of mid-century tourist cards of Temple Square.
