Green River and the Palisades, Green River, WY, 1945

Real photo

About this postcard

An elevated view looks down the Green River as it winds through a dry valley, with the Palisades cliffs rising on the left. A highway and railroad tracks cross the foreground, and distant bluffs fade under a cloudy sky. The caption places the scene on Highway U.S. 30, the southern Wyoming route that carried motorists through Green River and alongside the Union Pacific line. Green River grew up as a railroad town and division point, and the river and cliffs just south of town were a familiar sight to travelers. The message adds a note of travel trouble, with the sender held up for hours by a wreck ahead and wishing Betty were along.

Dear Betty, have to lay me here several hours because of a wreck up ahead. The trip is not too bad but still wish you were here. There is really some pretty country here Johnny
