About this postcard
A black-and-white view of the Green River near Mammoth Cave, its calm surface reflecting clouds, with dense woods crowding both banks. The river runs through the limestone country of south-central Kentucky, the same stone that holds the cave system a short distance away. Mammoth Cave drew visitors long before it became a national park, reached in the nineteenth century by stage road and by steamboat on the Green River. The caption's use of the national park name points to the decades after the park's authorization in 1926.
