About this postcard

A patriotic red, white and blue greeting card for Bergstrom Army Air Field, showing a twin-engine transport plane, the winged-star insignia of the U.S. Army Air Forces, a blue star and an eagle emblem on a ribbon reading "Vincit Qui Primum Gerit." The base opened in 1942 southeast of Austin as Del Valle Army Air Base and was renamed Bergstrom Army Air Field in 1943 for Capt. John A. E. Bergstrom, the first Austin pilot killed in World War II. It trained troop carrier crews under the I Troop Carrier Command during the war, later became Bergstrom Air Force Base, and its site is now Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
