Greetings from Buckley Field, east of Denver, Colorado, 1942

About this postcard

The large letters spelling BUCKLEY FIELD are filled with Colorado scenes: mountain lakes, red-rock canyons, and forest and park views. Two twin-engine bombers cross a pale blue sky above, and a stylized burst of light rises at lower left. Buckley Field opened east of Denver in 1942 as an Army Air Forces training installation and was named for 1st Lt. John H. Buckley, a Colorado aviator killed in France in 1918. The base was new when the card appeared, and large-letter greetings like this served as wartime souvenirs for servicemen and their families.
