About this postcard

The large-letter greeting spells out FARRAGUT in blue block letters, each filled with a small station scene: barracks, drill formations, an anchor insignia marked USN, and sailors with the American flag. A lake and mountain backdrop sits behind the letters. The 1943 message date places the card during the station's wartime operation. Farragut Naval Training Station was built on the shore of Lake Pend Oreille in northern Idaho and commissioned in 1942. During World War II it was one of the Navy's principal recruit training centers, and it closed in 1946.
