Greetings from Iowa, State Capitol in Des Moines, circa 1940

Card type
Linen

About this postcard

The card's large letters spell "Greetings from IOWA," with each letter filled by a different Iowa scene: a tall monument, a river bridge, and public buildings. At lower left is the Iowa rose, labeled the state flower; at lower right is the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines. The caption spells the building "State Capital," a common variant for the Capitol. The capitol was completed in 1886 and is known for its gold-leaf dome. Iowa adopted the wild rose as its state flower in 1897. Printed state facts identify Iowa as the Hawkeye State, give its 1940 population and area, and note statehood on Dec. 28, 1846.
