About this postcard

The word OHIO appears in oversized letters, each filled with a different Ohio scene: a concrete arch bridge, a downtown skyline with a tall tower, a monumental office building, and a stadium with a ball field. Below, the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus is shown with its Greek Revival portico and central cupola, captioned "State Capital in Columbus," beside a scarlet carnation, Ohio's state flower since 1904. The Statehouse was begun in 1839 and completed in 1861 and remains the seat of Ohio's government in downtown Columbus. Ohio entered the Union on March 1, 1803, and the scarlet carnation became the state flower in 1904, a flower associated with President William McKinley.
