Greetings from Rome, Georgia, large letter postcard, circa 1938

About this postcard

A large-letter greeting card in which the word GEORGIA is built from oversized block letters, each filled with a different local scene: a domed courthouse or capitol-like building, a church with a cupola, a bridge over a river, wooded parkland, and a peach orchard where a woman in a sun hat carries a basket of fruit. "Greetings from" is written in yellow script at upper left with ROME printed above the letters. Rome, Georgia, is the seat of Floyd County in the northwest corner of the state, sited at the confluence of the Etowah and Oostanaula rivers, and the peach orchard imagery nods to Georgia's best-known crop. Large-letter designs of this kind were a specialty of the Curt Teich Company of Chicago during the 1930s and 1940s.
