Greetings from Warsaw, Indiana, country road with cows, 1919

About this postcard

A dirt road curves past a white picket fence and flower beds, with a small child and a black-and-white dog walking toward the viewer. Beyond the fence, dairy cows graze in a pasture below a white farmhouse and trees; a telephone pole stands at the roadside and a golden field rises on the right. Warsaw is the county seat of Kosciusko County in northern Indiana, a lake-and-farm region. The message, "We are in need of our carbide," turns the stock greeting into a practical errand. Carbide fueled acetylene lamps, a common light source in rural homes and on farms before electrification.
