About this postcard
The card shows the Griffith Observatory, its large central copper-clad dome flanked by two smaller domes, standing on the brushy ridge of Griffith Park above Los Angeles as the printed caption names it: "Planetarium, Griffith Park, near Hollywood, California." The building, a landmark of Art Deco and Greek Revival design funded by the Griffith Trust, opened in 1935 and became one of the city's most visited public observatories, with its planetarium and free public telescopes. The surrounding hillside is rendered with flowering shrubs and winding paths typical of the park's landscaped slopes.
