About this postcard
Grizzly bears gather on an open, sandy-and-grassy slope at the bear feeding grounds near Canon (likely Canyon) in Yellowstone National Park. Adults and cubs are scattered across the ground, some standing on hind legs, others foraging or resting. The printed caption calls the evening feeding a big attraction: bears were fed at the same spot on Otter Creek, a mile from the Grand Canon area, where seats accommodated the crowds and a lecture explained the show. Such staged feedings drew tourists to Yellowstone in the early 20th century, when bears were still treated as roadside entertainment rather than wildlife to be kept at a distance.
