Grotto Geyser in Yellowstone's Upper Geyser Basin, north of Old Faithful and close to the road. Its sinter cone forms two arches over the crater, with a hot spring pool in the foreground and conifers behind. The printed caption calls the empty crater "more interesting than the eruption," notes eruptions every 2 to 5 hours, and gives a temperature of 201°. A small sign at right lists eruption times for visitors. Grotto is a cone geyser, and the arched openings in its formation give it the name.
Linen-textured stock with a white border; Curt Teich printer's job number "2A-H690" at lower right and series number 972 at upper right. An interpretive sign is shown within the photograph.
No postmark. Divided-back linen-texture card with white border; blue publisher imprint of "C. T. Art-Colortone," Sanborn Souvenir Co., Denver, Colo. Unused — no message, address, or stamp.
