About this postcard

Grotto Geyser rises from the Upper Geyser Basin in Yellowstone National Park, its thick, cratered sinter cone pierced by irregular arches beside a still pool, with pine forest behind. A small white sign on a post at right reads "GROTTO GEYSER." The geyser sits north of Old Faithful, close to the road on the left. Its empty crater is more interesting than its eruption, and eruptions come every two to five hours at about 201 degrees. The basin holds one of the world's densest concentrations of geysers, and Grotto's knobby cone, built from silica deposited by its water, gives the cave-like openings that inspired its name.
