A red and black pennant lettered "Stanley" in gothic-style type accompanies a photograph of several women in white dresses and a man in a suit, posed beside a stone building. The printed caption jokes that "The unexpected always happens at Stanley" and warns, "Look out when you are here." The sender writes from Stanley of a fine time and plans to go on to Waterloo before starting home. Souvenir pennants were common early 20th-century keepsakes, and novelty cards often used a town name as a playful warning to visitors.
