Group portrait of nine people outdoors, circa 1910

About this postcard

Nine people pose in a grassy field: three men standing at the back, six women and children seated on the ground in front of them. A tree and a wooden fence close off the ground behind the group, and everyone faces the camera squarely. The arrangement follows the usual pattern for an informal outdoor group portrait of the period, men standing and women and children seated, a format that amateur photographers with a box camera could set up quickly in a yard or pasture. Nothing on the card identifies the family or the place.
