About this postcard
Six or seven people, mostly women in light dresses and one man in a dark suit, stand along the crest of a bare sandy hill or dune with their arms raised in a celebratory pose. Behind them a flat expanse of water meets a pale, hazy sky, and sparse dune grass and scrub cover the foreground slope. The picture is an informal outing snapshot rather than a commercial view, and no caption or landmark identifies the spot. The only place name tied to the card is Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Such group snapshots were common in the early 1900s, when friends and families mailed real photo postcards of everyday outings.
