About this postcard
Hackley Park in downtown Muskegon, Michigan, shown as a formal public square with a central statue on a pedestal, a tall obelisk monument, and a cannon at the right. Bare trees frame the monuments, and a large building with a tower rises behind the park. The park is named for Charles H. Hackley, the lumberman and philanthropist whose fortune helped shape Muskegon in the late 19th century. Its memorials and military relic reflect the civic pride common to Gilded Age park squares. The sender shares family news: a new baby girl and an invitation to come to church and see the family's new house.
