About this postcard
Looking west along Hamilton Street, Allentown's main commercial thoroughfare, from an elevated vantage point. A large multi-story commercial block fills the left side of the street, with trolley tracks running down the center and a mix of horse-drawn and motor vehicles in the roadway. Brick storefronts, church spires, and house roofs recede toward the horizon. Allentown, the seat of Lehigh County in eastern Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley, was a growing industrial and commercial center in the early twentieth century, and Hamilton Street served as its retail and business spine. The mix of horse-drawn and motor vehicles captures the transition in street traffic in the early 1900s.
