About this postcard
An elevated bird's-eye view down Hamilton Street, Allentown's principal commercial thoroughfare, with a large multi-story commercial block dominating the left side of the street, trolley tracks and a few horse-drawn and motor vehicles in the roadway, and a dense spread of brick storefronts, church spires and house roofs receding toward the horizon. Allentown, the seat of Lehigh County in eastern Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley, grew into a substantial industrial and commercial center in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and Hamilton Street was its retail and business spine. The card's tinted rendering of the scene is typical of the color lithographed view cards issued in the undivided-back era.
