About this postcard
A long timber coal trestle runs along the Lake Ontario waterfront at Sodus Point, with a lake freighter lying alongside it and a small sailboat out on the blue water; behind the trestle stand the malt house and other buildings, while trees, lawns and a few red-roofed houses fill the foreground. Sodus Point was long a coal transshipment port on Lake Ontario, where trestles like this one loaded coal into freighters and steamships, and the village also supported malting and grain operations tied to the lake trade. The view is rendered in the bright, tinted style typical of mid-century linen postcards.
