About this postcard

The view looks out over Marblehead Harbor from the rocky promontory of Fort Sewall, with several small rowboats drawn up in the foreground cove, a few sailboats and schooners standing offshore, and shingled houses clustered along the point at right. Fort Sewall, first laid out in 1742 and enlarged during the Revolution and the War of 1812, guards the entrance to the harbor and was a popular vantage point for early postcard photographers. Marblehead was then a well-known summer resort and yachting center on Massachusetts' North Shore.
