About this postcard
Black-and-white view of Helena High School, a large Art Deco-style building with a stepped central tower, banks of multi-pane windows, and geometric spandrel panels. Evergreen trees and a flagpole stand on the lawn, with dark clouds and a low mountain ridge behind. A handwritten note records that the building was later used as a junior high after two new high schools were built. The mountain setting and the school's modern, stripped-down ornament fit Helena, Montana, the state capital, where public buildings of the 1930s often paired classical symmetry with contemporary detail.
