About this postcard
View of Herald Square at Broadway, Sixth Avenue, and 34th Street, with the R. H. Macy & Co. department store on the left and the Minerva and Bell Ringers monument in the center. Shoppers, cars, and buses fill the intersection, surrounded by tall office and store buildings. Herald Square was the heart of the city's shopping district, named for the New York Herald and ringed by some of the largest department stores in the world. The Sixth Avenue elevated was torn down in 1939, and the Minerva statue was returned to the square afterward.
