Four large fish, apparently salmon or lake trout, hang head-up from a wooden crossbar in front of leafy trees, their pale bellies and reddish fins catching the light. The printed line, "HERE'S THE FISH I PROMISED TO SEND YOU," turns the catch into a comic greeting, the kind of boastful card an angler might mail home from a trip. Such novelty fish cards were common in the 1930s through the 1950s, when sending a joking view of the day's catch was a familiar vacation ritual.
White border; visible linen (crosshatch) texture across the image; light wear and slight discoloration along the left edge.
No postmark (unused card). Handwritten date Feb 18 1945 on the message half; handwritten address on the address half reading Shirley McPherson, 413 Market St, Lemoyne, Pa. Return address: Minnie Raynor. Divided back, linen-texture stock with white border; heavy foxing/staining across the back.
