About this postcard

A tinted view of the church at High Beech in Epping Forest, its slender shingled spire and red-roofed nave rising above dense trees, with a small timber lych-gate and a few strolling figures on the sandy path in the foreground. The church of the Holy Innocents at High Beach was built in the 19th century to serve this scattered forest parish, and the surrounding Epping Forest — once a royal hunting ground — was preserved for public enjoyment after the Epping Forest Act of 1878, making the village a popular excursion spot for Londoners.
