About this postcard
The view looks past autumn-tinted hardwood trees toward the tall rock bluffs that rise along U.S. Highway 71 in the Missouri Ozarks, with a pale sky beyond the ridge. The printed caption places the drive south of Joplin, Carthage, Neosho, and Camp Crowder, between Anderson, Lanagon (likely Lanagan), and Noel, Missouri, and calls it "one of the most beautiful drives in the Ozarks." Highway 71 was long a principal north-south route through the Ozarks before Interstate 49 carried most of its traffic; the wooded bluffs are characteristic of the Ozark Plateau. Camp Crowder, named in the caption, was a large Army training camp near Neosho during World War II.
