About this postcard
A tinted view shows the High Bridge, a long stone aqueduct bridge with tall arches, spanning the Harlem River in New York. The Highbridge Water Tower rises at the left above wooded heights, with city buildings on the far bank and a park-like foreground with stone gate piers and lamps. Completed in 1848 as part of the Croton Aqueduct, the High Bridge carried water into Manhattan and became a popular promenade and postcard subject. The Highbridge Water Tower, completed in 1872, helped supply upper Manhattan and stands as a landmark above the river.
