A tall granite obelisk stands on the field at Gettysburg, with a Civil War field cannon and its limber in the foreground and floral beds along the monument's base. The monument, dedicated in 1892, marks the approximate point of the farthest Confederate advance during Pickett's Charge on July 3, 1863, the climax of the Battle of Gettysburg. The surrounding ground is now part of Gettysburg National Military Park.
