About this postcard
A view across the lake in Hollenbeck Park, Los Angeles, with a curving flower-lined walk along the near shore, palms and other ornamental trees, and a small island in the distance. Two white waterfowl float on the water. The park was laid out in the 1890s on land donated by the Hollenbeck family in Boyle Heights, and its lake and landscaped grounds became a popular pleasure ground for early-20th-century Los Angeles. The message is a short Thanksgiving note declining a dinner invitation, the kind of everyday correspondence that postcards made cheap and quick.
