A spray of holly with red berries fills a white oval medallion, framed by gold-embossed holly leaves on a deep red ground. The printed greeting reads "A Joyful Christmastide." Holly, with its evergreen leaves and winter berries, was a common Christmas emblem in early twentieth-century greeting cards, carried over from older English and German holiday customs. Cards like this carried brief holiday messages between families and friends, often across long distances.
Gold-embossed holly leaves and lettering on a red ground; oval picture inset with embossed rim. Slight edge wear at corners.
Postmark: CHICAGO DEC 23 2-PM 1915. Divided-back card with green imprint, "PRINTED IN GERMANY" at right edge; embossed front; light edge wear and album residue.
