Holly Christmas greeting, Baltimore, MD, circa 1907

Card type
Lithograph

About this postcard

A sprig of holly with green leaves and clusters of red berries is printed across the upper half of the card above the greeting "A Merry Christmas." Holly, an evergreen with winter berries, was a standard motif of early twentieth-century Christmas cards, carried over from older English and German holiday traditions. The lettering is embossed in gold, a common decorative treatment on lithographed greetings of the 1900s–1910s.
