A gilt-bordered Christmas greeting built around a large holly wreath with red berries and pale mistletoe buds, its center opening onto a snow-covered village church with a slender onion-domed steeple and neighboring gabled houses under a wintry sky. The greeting "A MERRY CHRISTMAS" is lettered in gold at the bottom. Cards of this embossed, gold-highlighted style were produced in large numbers in Germany and the United States during the early 20th century for the Christmas postcard trade.
